Another G3 for Zoffany 2yo Main Edition
Outstanding juvenile Main Edition (2f Zoffany-Maine Lobster, by Woodman) was back on track for trainer Mark Johnston when winning the G3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
The Zoffany filly has now won four of her five starts, including the G3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, with her only defeat coming when badly hampered in the G2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket on her previous run.
There were no such problems on Saturday as she saw off La Pelosa by a length and a quarter under P J McDonald.
“The step up to seven was no problem. We needed a bit of a confidence booster after the last run, as she was clearly badly hampered,” said Johnston. “It was nice to have a nice straightforward race to get her back on track.”
Main Edition was quoted at 20/1 for next year’s G1 1,000 Guineas by bookmakers and Johnston added: "She has more than confirmed the form of Ascot. I've not got any immediate plans. That's the thing now, where do we go at seven? We will just go home and think about it.”
Bred by Minch Bloodstock, Main Edition was bought for 62,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls by Johnston from the Castletown Stud consignment.
