Arqana Buyers Seek Further Success With Wootton Bassett
Sire sensation Wootton Bassett was responsible for three six-figure sales at Friday’s Arqana Breeze Up Sale, which was held at the Doncaster venue of Goffs UK.
Longways Stables kicked off proceedings with their colt (Lot 128) out of Akasti (Holy Roman Emperor), which was knocked down to Broadhurst Agency for £150,000. Broadhurst Agency’s honour roll includes Qatar Derby victor Hellenistique (Wootton Bassett).
Just a few lots later, Peter and Ross Doyle acted on behalf of Thurloe Thoroughbreds when going to £100,000 for Church Farm and Horse Park Stud’s half-brother to Listed winner Salateen. The father and son bloodstock agency have enjoyed success with the sire, having bought the highly-rated Beat Le Bon (Wootton Bassett) and three-time Stakes winner Chindit (Wootton Bassett) as yearlings. Last seen finishing fifth in the 2,000 Guineas, Richard Hannon’s charge holds entries in the St James’s Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes.
Church Farm and Horse Park Stud are also no strangers to Wootton Bassett, having sold Grade 3 winner and Coventry Stakes third Guildsman (Wootton Bassett) at the 2019 renewal of this sale.
Later in the session, Roderick Kavanagh’s Glending Stables continued a fine sale season when selling their daughter of Wootton Bassett for £150,000. Sackville Donald provided the winning bid for the half-sister to Grade 3 winner Colonia (Champs Elysees).
