Back-To-Back Stakes Wins For Son Of Wootton Bassett
Chindit (5h Wootton Bassett - Always A Dream, by Oasis Dream) defied a five pound penalty and less than ideal conditions to record back-to-back wins in Wednesday’s Listed Fortune Stakes at Sandown.
The Richard Hannon-trained entire gained his fourth Group win last time out, but faced the new challenge of soft ground in the Listed feature. Ridden prominently by Pat Dobbs, he was travelling best of the field with two furlongs left to race and led approaching the final furlong. Soon ridden, he dug deep in the closing stages to deny the favourite by a head.
“I’m delighted with that,” Hannon said after the race. “He is one of the biggest allies our yard has had for years. He has run in all these good races and turns up on every occasion. He is a pleasure to have.”
Chindit’s eighth Stakes win held extra significance as owner Dr Cyrus Poonawalla had travelled over for the day. The twice Group 1 placed son of Wootton Bassett was bred by JC Bloodstock and Rory Mahon, who have a yearling full-brother in next month’s Tattersalls Book 1 Sale.
