Back To Back Wins For Daughter Of The Gurkha
Monday saw the Dermot Weld-trained Malayan (2f The Gurkha - Malayan Mist, by Dansili) gain her second win from three starts in the seven furlong contest at Roscommon.
Successful on her second start at the Galway Festival, Lady O’Reilly’s homebred was sent off favourite to follow up under Colin Keane, who rode the bay to track the leader. Leading from over two furlongs out, she was pushed out to deny her nearest rival by half a length on the line.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She's an improving filly and she's probably value for a bit more than the winning margin. I'd say you might see a better filly in a better race where they can lead her for longer.”
From the second crop of top-class miler The Gurkha, Malayan’s success bodes well for her Camelot half-brother catalogued in Book 1 at Tattersalls.
