Battle Of Marengo continues Galileo’s dream run with G2 success
Battle Of Marengo (3c Galileo-Anna Karenina, by Green Desert) remains second-favourite for the G1 Derby at Epsom after winning the G2 Derby Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge emulated his sire by winning both the Leopardstown contest and also the G3 Ballysax Stakes on his previous start as he continued a great week for Galileo.
“That all went to plan. We had to go on with him or it would have been a very steady pace,” said O’Brien. “He has just ticked over since the last day. You would have to be happy with him. He is lazy in front but he gave a good blow afterwards. He loves fast ground as he is a great mover.”
Battle Of Marengo was scoring a day after the Galileo filly Secret Gesture (3f Galileo-Shastye, by Danehill) took the Listed Oaks Trial at Lingfield. Meanwhile, earlier in the week at Chester, Battle Of Marengo’s stablemates Magician (3c Galileo-Absolutelyfabulous, by Mozart) and Ruler Of The World (3c Galileo-Love Me True, by Kingmambo) respectively won the G3 Dee Stakes and the G3 Chester Vase.
