Big Dreams For Session-Topping Wootton Bassett Colt

Similarities to Group 1 winning juvenile Bucanero Fuerte (Wootton Bassett) pushed Robson Aguiar to give a session-topping £200,000 for a son of Wootton Bassett on the opening day of the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale.

After providing the final online bid, Aguiar told the press, “He really reminded me of Bucanero Fuerte when I bought him as a yearling. He's got a good loose walk, he's very athletic and has a good pedigree. I see a lot of value in this horse at that price.”

Bucanero Fuerte carried the colours of Giselle De Aguiar to a smart debut win at the Curragh, with AMO Racing joining ownership for a fine third to River Tiber (Wootton Bassett) in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes. A Group 2 winner next time out, he provided connections with their first top-flight success when drawing clear in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes.

Like Bucanero Fuerte, plans remain fluid for Aguiar’s latest buy, he explained, “I bought him for myself at the moment but we'll see, maybe later on I could have a partner in the horse. I'll get him home, break him in and see how he's going before deciding what I do with him. He could breeze or race but I like him a lot and for me he really stood out in this sale.”

Offered by Highclere Stud on behalf of breeder Rockcliffe Stud, the prized colt is a half-brother to dual Group winner Trillium (No Nay Never) and the Stakes-placed American Kestrel (Starspangledbanner). He hails from Wootton Bassett’s first crop conceived at Coolmore Stud, who averaged €378,810 at the recent Arqana August Sale.
