Bright Future Ahead Of Zoffany Filly After Exciting Debut
Albigna (2f Zoffany - Freedonia, by Selkirk) emerged as an exciting juvenile after making a winning debut in a competitive maiden on the first day of the Irish Guineas Festival.
13 fillies lined up for the six furlong sprint at the Curragh, with Shane Foley riding the Niarchos Family homebred towards the back of the field. Making headway entering the final furlong, she ran on well between horses to deny the favourite Tango (No Nay Never) by a head, with another three parts of a length back to Precious Moments (Gleneagles) in third.
Winning trainer Jessica Harrington commented after the race, “We've always liked her and thought she could run very well but wasn't sure if she could win this evening. She's a lovely filly, and will have learned plenty in behind. She's going to be better when she goes over seven furlongs.”
Harrington said that future plans are undecided for Albigna, who is a half-sister to Listed winner Polybius, out of Group 2 winner and Grade 1 second Freedonia.
