Cogitate (Churchill) winning his novice stakes at Newbury

Bright Future And Big Plans Ahead Of Churchill Colt

Charlie Hills has high hopes for Cogitate (2c Churchill – Damaniyat Girl, by Elusive Quality) after the newcomer won a race with an impressive honour roll at Newbury.

The son of Churchill was one of nine to line up for Friday’s seven furlong novice stakes, which had previously been won by the likes of Chaldean and Bayside Boy. The bay raced in midfield in the early stages and was travelling strongly approaching the two furlong marker, from which Hollie Doyle pushed him along. Making good headway, he led inside the final furlong and was ridden clear to score by two lengths.

“Cogitate is a beautiful looking horse,” the winning trainer later said. “He has the size, scope and looks to have a big future ahead of him. He qualifies now for the Acomb and that could be a good step. We've won that a couple of times before with Dutch Connection and Phoenix Of Spain so that might be the route he takes.”

Owned by H Frost, Cogitate was bought by Hills with McKeever Bloodstock as a yearling for 105,000gns. The exciting son of Churchill was bred by Lynch Bages Ltd.
