Queroyal (Churchill) Wins The Group 3 German Derby Trial at Baden Baden

Churchill Colt A Classic Contender After Group 3 Success

Queroyal (3c Churchill - Queenie, by Areion) emerged as a leading fancy for the Group 1 German Derby when winning the Group 3 Derby Trial at Baden-Baden on Saturday.

The Andreas Wohler-trained colt ran out a smart winner on his seasonal return last month, when beating Group performer Arnis Master in a conditions race at Mulheim. Stepping up to ten furlongs at the weekend, he was ridden to chase the leaders by Eduardo Pedroza and was asked to quicken from three furlongs out. Ridden approaching the final furlong, he made good headway to lead soon after and ran on well to win by a length.

Owned and bred by Gestut Paschberg, he continues a fine run for Churchill, with Vadeni (Churchill) impressing in the Group 3 Prix de Guiche earlier this month. The pair hail from Churchill's first crop, which has produced five Group/Stakes to date.
