Churchill Colt Beats Classy Field At Haydock

Papa Cocktail (2c Churchill - Anklet, by Acclamation) produced a smart performance to get off the mark at the second time of asking at Haydock on Saturday.

A promising third on debut last month, the Tom Clover-trained colt faced two previous winners in the seven furlong novice stakes. Racing close to the race under Jack Mitchell, the bay was travelling well with two furlongs left to race and quickened up the rail approaching the final furlong. Running on well, he scored by a length and three quarters comfortably.

Owned by Khalifa Dasmal and bred by Grangecon Holdings, Papa Cocktail is closely related to Grade 3 winner Counterparty Risk (Australia). He hails from the first crop of top-class racehorse Churchill, as does impressive maiden winner The Acropolis (Churchill).
