Churchill Colt Flies Home On Debut
Vadeni (2c Churchill - Vaderana, by Monsun) emerged as an exciting prospect on Monday when quickening home smartly to win the seven furlong maiden at La Teste de Buch.
Jean-Bernard Eyquem rode the Aga Khan homebred with supreme confidence, as he raced in last turning for home and waited until two furlongs out to make his move. Producing a smart turn of foot on the outside, he ran on well under hands and heels to win by two lengths, earning JDG Rising Star status.
A step up in class is presumably on the cards for the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained bay, who is out of a half-sister to Group 1 performer The Pentagon (Galileo).
He continues a fine start at stud by Churchill, who was responsible for the winner of last week’s Listed Marwell Stakes in Ladies Church. Other first crop performers include Group 3 Tyros Stakes third Unconquerable (Churchill) and Marco Botti’s impressive winner Encountered (Churchill).
