Churchill Colt Sells For Six Figure Sum At Tattersalls

Buyers seeking Royal Ascot winners were out in force at this week’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, so it came as no surprise that a son of Churchill played a starring role.

Churchill lost his maiden tag in the Chesham Stakes and went on to win all his subsequent juvenile starts, including two top-level victories. A dual Guineas victor the following year, he covered a top-class book of mares in his first season, including the well-bred Stakes performer Orcia.

Orcia’s resulting colt proved a must-have buy for Manor House Stud, who went to 135,000gns for the Glending Stables-consigned bay. Bred by Kildaragh Stud, the Churchill colt is the first foal out of Orcia, herself a half-sister to three Stakes winners, including Grade 1 third Mutatis Mutandis (Mastercraftsman).

Churchill has enjoyed terrific demand in the sales ring to date, with his first yearlings selling for up to 350,000gns, while his second crop of foals sold for up to 230,000gns.
