Churchill Colt Strikes On Second Start
Into Battle (2c Churchill - Madam Baroque, by Royal Applause) produced a smart performance to win Wednesday’s mile maiden at Kempton.
The Ed Walker-trained colt showed promise on debut at Newmarket last month and stepped up to a mile on his second start. Tracking the leaders under Billy Loughnane, he travelled strongly on the run for home and was asked to quicken at the two furlong pole. Ridden to lead approaching the final furlong, he kept on well to beat the favourite by three parts of a length.
Bred by Norelands and Hamish McCalmont Bloodstock, the promising juvenile is owned by Philip Afia and Matthew Cottis. The son of Churchill provides an important update for his sister by Starspangledbanner, who is catalogued in the upcoming Goffs November Foal Sale.
