Churchill Filly Brings €350,000 At Arqana
Churchill’s bright start at stud was reflected in the Arqana sales ring on Monday, when a filly by the freshman sire was knocked down to White Birch Farm for €350,000.
Oceanic Bloodstock’s Michel Zerolo bid on behalf of Peter Brandt’s operation, and said, “She's a lovely filly by a good first-year stallion and from a lovely Aga Khan family. We hope she's good. She'll be trained by Jean-Claude Rouget.”
Offered by Haras de Montaigu, the bay becomes the most expensive produce of the unraced mare Shamiyra, whose first foal was Group 1 scorer Shakeel.
Monday’s result follows a successful period for Churchill’s progeny at Tattersalls, where his stock averaged 183,571gns at the Book 1 sale. SackvilleDonald went to 440,000gns for Barronstown Stud’s Churchill brother to Bangkok (Australia), while Glenvale Stud’s Churchill sister to Hunting Horn (Camelot) is US-bound after selling to BSW/ Crow Euro Venture for 250,000gns.
The preceding Goffs Orby Sale saw Justin Casse stretch to €360,000 for a Churchill half-sister to Group 3 winning juvenile Agartha (Caravaggio).
