Churchill Two Year Old Records Back To Back Wins
Friday saw Pol Roger (2c Churchill - Passegiata, by Mastercraftsman) follow up his maiden victory with a smart success in the novice stakes at Thirsk.
Second on debut last month, the Michael Dods-trained colt went one better at Haydock three weeks ago and stepped up to a mile on his third start. Short-priced favourite She’s Hot (Sioux Nation) led the field, as Connor Beasley rode Pol Roger in second and asked his mount to challenge approaching the two furlong marker. Leading narrowly a furlong later, he kept on well to beat She’s Hot (Sioux Nation) by three parts of a length, with another two lengths back to the third.
Owned by J Sagar and S Lowthian, the son of Churchill is the first foal bred by Grange and Manister House Studs out of Passegiata, who is closely related to Stakes winner Mia Tesoro (Danehill Dancer). A Caravaggio half-sister to Pol Roger sells at Tattersalls Ireland next month.
