Classy Mastercraftsman Colt Gains Deserved Maiden Win
Kailash (3c Mastercraftsman - Kalisma, by Cape Cross) built on some fine placed efforts to land Friday’s ten furlong maiden at Cork.
The Aga Khan homebred had been placed on four of his five previous starts, including behind the exciting Santa Barbara (Camelot), and was sent off favourite on his latest start. Chasing the leaders under Colin Keane, he led approaching the two furlong marker and kept on well to win by a length and three quarters.
Kris Weld, assistant to winning trainer Dermot Weld, said after the race, “He is a grand horse, always runs an honest race and might get a little further in time. He deserved that today.”
The son of Mastercraftsman is the first foal out of maiden winner Kalisma, who hails from the family of Kalinisi.
