Determined Starspangledbanner Colt Goes One Better

Veblen Good (2c Starspangledbanner – Pious Alexander, by Acclamation) showed a game attitude to winning his second start at Wolverhampton on Monday.

The Karl Burke-trained juvenile received a form boost when the colt he was second to at Sandown went on to finish third in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes, which saw him sent off the even-money favourite on Monday. Racing prominently over the minimum trip, he was ridden after the two furlong pole and led before the final furlong. He kept on well under Clifford Lee’s urgings to prevail by a nose on the line.

Owned by Noel, Paul and Charles O’Callaghan, Veblen Good was bred by the family’s Mountarmstrong Stud and Alexander Bloodstock. The son of Starspangledbanner is out of a half-sister to Queen Mary Stakes winner Anthem Alexander (Starspangledbanner).
