Fastnet Rock Filly All Heart In Stakes Success
Paul Mulrennan hailed the brave attitude of Orlaith (2f Fastnet Rock - Cmonbabylitemyfire, by Piccolo), after the Iain Jardine-trained filly produced a career-best performance to land the Listed Byerley Stud Stakes at Newbury on Friday afternoon.
Successful in a Ripon maiden last month, she maintained an upward curve to finish fourth in a conditions race at Goodwood last time out, with every start coming over Friday’s five furlong trip.
Mulrennan rode the bay to chase the leaders, asking her to quicken from the two furlong pole and she ran on well between horses inside the final furlong. Finishing well, she won by three parts of a length, as Queen Mary Stakes fifth Al Raya finished second.
Commenting after the race, Mulrennan said, “All credit has to go to Iain Jardine, Orlaith has done nothing but improve with each run. It was a great performance considering she was drawn one. She picked up really well and was really strong at the line. She is almost like a colt, just as hard as nails.”
Owned by James and Scot Fyffe, Orlaith was bred by Grange Stud out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Toormore and dual Group 2 winner Estidhkaar.
