Fastnet Rock Sires Saturday Juvenile Double
Joie De Soir (2f Fastnet Rock - Highest Ever, by Galileo) completed the first leg of a two-year-old double for Fastnet Rock on Saturday when making a winning debut in the Prix du Grand Chesnay at Deauville.
The bay raced in mid-field for much of the nine and a half furlong contest, quickening approaching the turn for home and ran on well between horses from two furlongs out. Asserting close home under hands and heels, Andre Fabre’s charge scored by half a length under Hugo Besnier.
Later that afternoon at Newcastle, the Ralph Beckett-trained Surefire (2c Fastnet Rock - Modesta, by Sadler’s Wells) kept on strongly to take the mile Novice Stakes under Paul Mulrennan.
Racing close to the pace, the bay was ridden from over two furlongs out and ran on well to take second inside the final furlong. Digging deep, he showed a determined attitude to lead close home, denying the favourite Mobaadel by a neck on the line, as the pair finished over three lengths clear of the third.
There should be more to come from the Juddmonte Farms homebred, whose siblings improved with age, namely Listed winner Platitude, Chester Vase second Model Pupil and Grade 3 winner Button Down.
