First Highland Reel Yearling Hits High Notes At Tattersalls
Highland Reel’s first yearling to be offered at Tattersalls sold for 320,000gns to McCalmont Bloodstock on the opening day’s trade of the Book 1 Yearling Sale.
Offered by Highclere Stud, the bay colt is a half-brother to Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes winner Palace Pier, who extended his unbeaten record in the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois since the catalogue was printed.
The son of Beach Frolic also has a two-year-old brother by Camelot to provide potential updates, having sold to Sackville Donald for 300,000gns last year.
Highland Reel’s first crop enjoyed success at Tattersalls at last year’s foal sales, where they sold for up to 150,000gns. The globetrotting superstar covered 167 mares in his first season at stud, with 18 of them having won at Stakes level.
