G1 target for Mastercraftsman's latest winner
Amazing Maria (2f Mastercraftsman-Messias Da Silva, by Tale Of The Cat) justified her connections' view of her innate ability when she ran away with a maiden at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday by six lengths.
“Nice filly. Big. Scope,” said trainer Ed Dunlop succinctly afterwards.
The daughter of Mastercraftsman, home-bred by owner Sir Robert Ogden, now has bigger targets on the horizon, with the G1 Fillies' Mile at her local track Newmarket her end-of-season objective.
“It’s strange that one of her ability has taken three races to win,” said Dunlop. “But I blame myself for Newbury last time. She'd showed speed at home and I thought we'd get away with six furlongs, and we didn't.
“When you know they're good, and they get beat a couple of times you start to lose a bit of confidence but now we can see we were right about her.”
Frankie Dettori was in the saddle aboard the Mastercraftsman filly and he was equally enthusiastic about her. “We had high hopes for her in the spring and despite her not having won I was confident today. She's shown what she's capable of and she's a very nice filly with a real future,” said Dettori.
Amazing Maria was winning five days after the Richard Hannon-trained Expert (2c Mastercraftsman-Raphimix, by Linamix) ran out a smart winner of a good Newmarket maiden to bring more success for Mastercraftsman.
