G3 next for game Galileo mare

Opera Gal (5m Galileo-Opera Glass, by Barathea) proved a popular winner at Salisbury on Wednesday when scoring for the racecourse chairman, Jeff Smith, in the Listed EBF Upavon Stakes. It was a second Listed success for the durable Galileo mare, who was bred by Smith at his Littleton Stud, and trainer Andrew Balding could now target a German Group 3 contest. “She is as game as the day is long, a little gem,” said Balding. “She ran a bit flat at Ascot so went back to her owner’s Littleton Stud for a couple of weeks to freshen her up which has done the trick. She loves this ground and will probably go to Baden-Baden for a Group 3 at the end of the month.”
