Galileo Blueblood Gains Deserved Stakes Success
Wednesday saw Laburnum (3f Galileo - Secret Garden, by Danehill) lead home a 1-2 for Ballydoyle and Galileo in the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes at Gowran Park.
A debut winner over course and distance in June, Aidan O’Brien’s charge went on to finish a close second in the Listed Oaks Trial and subsequently finished fourth in the Curragh Classic. She was sent off favourite on her latest outing, with Seamie Heffernan riding her to chase the leaders and led entering the final furlong. Staying on strongly, she scored by a length and a quarter from stablemate Ennistymon (Galileo), as A New Dawn (Zoffany) ran on for third, ahead of Epona Plays (Australia) in fourth.
Owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, Laburnum becomes a fifth winner of the Hurry Harriet Stakes for Aidan O’Brien. Bred by Swettenham Stud, the daughter of Galileo is a full-sister to top-class miler Roderic O’Connor (Galileo) and Salsabil Stakes winner Dazzling (Galileo).
