Galileo dominates Cartier Awards
The great Galileo is no stranger to Cartier Awards success and he dominated this year’s event, held in London on Tuesday night, capturing five of the eight prizes.
Leading the way was the brilliant filly Minding (3f Galileo-Lillie Langtry, by Danehill Dancer), who was named Cartier Horse Of The Year after a fabulous season that included wins in the G1 1,000 Guineas, G1 Oaks G1 Pretty Polly Stakes, G1 Nassau Stakes and G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (pictured).
The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly also took the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly Award.
Stablemate Found (4f Galileo-Red Evie, by Intikhab), who led home a 1-2-3 for Galileo in the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, was named Cartier Older Horse Award winner.
G1 Ascot Gold Cup winner Order Of St George (4c Galileo-Another Storm, by Gone West) took the Cartier Stayer Award after another excellent year.
It was no surprise to see Churchill (2c Galileo-Meow, by Storm Cat) win the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt Award. The Ballydoyle inmate heads into the winter as a leading candidate for 2017 Classic success after a season that included victories in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes and G1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.
The late Scat Daddy, sire of exciting young stallion No Nay Never, was responsible for the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly Award winner Lady Aurelia (2f Scat Daddy-D’Wildcat Speed, by Forest Wildcat).
Fittingly, the man that trains Minding, Found, Order Of St George and Churchill was also recognised when the Daily Telegraph Award Of Merit went to Aidan O’Brien.
