Game Juvenile The Latest Stakes Winner By Ten Sovereigns
Smart filly Usdi Atohi (2f Ten Sovereigns – Eria, by Zoffany) was an appropriate winner of the Listed Coolmore Ten Sovereigns Tipperary Stakes on Wednesday.
The Donnacha O’Brien-trained filly made a winning debut in April and the form had worked out well, with the runner-up twice placing at Group level. Disappointing next time out, she appeared to appreciate the return to five furlongs at Tipperary and led after the two furlong pole. Ridden when challenged by Powerful Nation (Sioux Nation), she rallied gamely to beat the colt by a neck, with the pair finishing two lengths and three quarters clear of the third.
“We thought she was a good filly and the form of her maiden worked out very well,” the winning trainer said. “She was a bit disappointing in Naas but she took a very bad step at one of the ridges and Gavin was easy on her then. This looked a competitive race but thankfully she’s bounced back to form.”
O’Brien added that a return to Group level is on the cards for Usdi Atohi, who is owned by Barry Fowler and Steven Weston. The €150,000 yearling buy was bred by Whisperview Trading and is a full-sister to Listed winning stablemate Asean (Ten Sovereigns).
Usdi Atohi hails from the second crop of Ten Sovereigns, who led the 2023 freshman sire standings by black-type performers. The top-class juvenile is responsible for 15 Stakes horses, including Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes heroine Inquisitively and Group 2 performer Kalispera.
