German G3 for Rock filly
Unlucky German 1,000 Guineas runner-up Cherry Danon (3f Rock Of Gibraltar-Sherifa, by Monsun) gained some compensation on Saturday when winning the G3 Hamburger Stutenmeile at Hamburg.
The Rock filly, who was bred in Ireland by Ken Lynch, lost a shoe when losing out by a short-head in the G2 German 1,000 Guineas at Dusseldorf on her previous start.
She always raced prominently in the Hamburger Stutenmeile before rallying in the closing stages to finish a length and a quarter clear of a large field.
Trainer Peter Schiergen told the Racing Post: "Everybody thinks that Cherry Danon needs it soft, but that's not the case and she can go on any ground. She has kept on improving this year and we think that she is a specialist miler so shall keep her at this trip. However there are no suitable races coming up in Germany, so we might have to go abroad."
