Group 1 Glory For Daughter Of Starspangledbanner
Aristia (4f Starspangledbanner - Aloisi, by Kalanisi) took her progressive record to new heights on Sunday when making all to win the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville.
The Richard Hannon-trained bay gained Stakes success last season at the expense of previous Group 1 winner Alpine Star, and produced a career-best performance to finish second in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes last time out. Partnered by regular ride Sean Levey at the weekend, she was asked to quicken approaching the two furlong pole and kept on well under pressure to deny Irish raider Rosscarbery by a neck on the line. Accomplished globe-trotter Ebaiyra and 11-time Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant were among those chasing them home.
“Aristia is a very good filly,” a delighted Richard Hannon said after the race. “These days are very hard to achieve, coming to these Group 1’s and winning is nearly impossible, and I'm delighted for her.” On future plans, he added, “There's a race on Champions Day, there's one on Arc day but we're delighted to have this today, it's amazing.”
Owned by Mrs E Roberts and bred by Rathasker Stud, Aristia becomes a second Group 1 winner in France this season for Starspangledbanner, following State Of Rest’s win in the Prix Ganay.
