Alcohol Free (No Nay Never) Wins On Debut at Newbury

Group 3 Aim For Debut Winner By No Nay Never

Alcohol Free (No Nay Never - Plying, by Hard Spun) will be aimed at the Group 3 Dick Poole Stakes after making a winning debut at Newbury on Saturday.

Racing over six furlongs, the Andrew Balding-trained filly raced at the back of the field for the first two furlongs, before improving into midfield. Ridden to take second over two furlongs out, she led entering the final furlong and kept on well to win by a length and three quarters, as the more experienced market leaders finished second and third

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Alcohol Free has looked a nice filly at home, but she's the first two-year-old filly we've run this year, so it's a pleasing start. She's got a lot of natural speed, but should stay further in time. Jeff Smith is chairman at Salisbury and the Dick Poole would be very high on the agenda.”

Owned by Jeff Smith and bred by Churchtown House Stud, Alcohol Free is a half-sister to Listed winner Alexander James (Camelot). The daughter of No Nay Never is out of a winning half-sister to talented two-year-old Kissing Lights.
