Gurkha Girl Stays On Strongly To Maiden Success

Mrs Anne Cowley’s homebred Gurkha Girl (3f The Gurkha - Freddie’s Girl, by More Than Ready) continues to improve with every run and gained a smart maiden success at Lingfield on Saturday afternoon.

Fourth on debut over course and distance, the Roger Teal-trained bay finished second next time out and was sent off favourite for Saturday’s seven furlong Fillies’ Novice Stakes. She raced prominently under Ryan Moore, making good headway from over two furlongs out and kept on strongly inside the final furlong. Leading in the final 110 yards, she won by two and three quarter lengths going away.

Gurkha Girl is a half-sister to connections’ dual Stakes winner Tip Two Win, who produced a career-best performance to finish second in the 2,000 Guineas. She hails from the first crop of The Gurkha, as does Group 3 scorer Best Of Lips.
