Hannon Bullish On Chindit’s Classic Claims After Greenham Win
Richard Hannon is looking forward to running Chindit (3c Wootton Bassett - Always A Dream, by Oasis Dream) in the 2,000 Guineas, after his charge stayed on well to justify favouritism in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury.
The Michael Pescod-owned colt won his first three juvenile starts, including a Listed contest at Ascot and the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, before encountering unsuitably soft ground in the Dewhurst Stakes.
Reunited with Pat Dobbs on Sunday, the bay was held up in the early stages and was pushed along from two furlongs out. Making good headway entering the final furlong, he kept on well to lead close home, winning by a neck on the line.
Richard Hannon was full of praise for Chindit after the race, saying, “At the end of the day he's won a very good Listed race at Ascot, a Champagne Stakes and he's come back and won a Greenham. I don't think you can do much more than what he's done.” All roads now lead to Newmarket; "He's very reliable and has a good chance in the Guineas – I don't think he needs to be frightened of anything.”
Bred by JC Bloodstock and Rory Mahon, the exciting son of Wootton Bassett comes from the family of Epsom Derby victor Motivator (Montjeu).
