Highland Reel Colt Rallies For Maiden Victory

Saturday saw Jean-Claude Seroul’s homebred Agoureil (3 Highland Reel - Kylayne) gain a deserved win in the extended ten furlong maiden at Lyon.

Third on his two previous starts over course and distance, the Jean-Paul Gauvin-trained colt was ridden by Mickael Barzalona for the first time at the weekend. Drawn wide, he chased the leader for much of the race and was asked to quicken turning for home. Digging deep inside the final furlong, he denied Marvanco by a head on the line.

Agoureil hails from the first crop of globe-trotting superstar Highland Reel, who enjoyed a fine start last season with the likes of Group 2 winner Atamisque.
