Highly-Rated Son Of Ten Sovereigns Completes Hat-Trick
The progressive Ten Pounds (3g Ten Sovereigns – Lady Fashion, by Oasis Dream) may be destined for Stakes contests after landing a valuable prize at Thursday’s Racing League meeting at Newcastle.
Harry Charlton’s charge was making his handicap debut, having received a rating of 90 for winning two races by three and a half lengths and four lengths and three quarters. Reunited with regular rider Trevor Whelan, the bay raced in touch with the leaders and began to make headway approaching the two furlong pole. He led a furlong later and kept on well to beat five-year-old Irish raider Barbapapa (Starspangledbanner) by two and a half lengths, with another length back to the favourite in third.
Owned by Mohammed Jaber, Ten Pounds was bred by Glenvale Stud and Edgeridge Ltd. He hails from the first crop of Ten Sovereigns, who was responsible for 11 blacktype juveniles last season- more than any other freshman sire.
