Impressive Filly Kicks Off Double For The Gurkha

Miramis (3f The Gurkha - Chronicle, by Observatory) lived up to her trainer’s high expectations when running out a clear winner of the seven furlong fillies maiden at Gowran on Saturday.

Running on good ground for the first time, Sheila Lavery’s charge was sent off second favourite under Robbie Colgan and tracked the leader for much of the way. Leading after the two furlong marker, she went clear approaching the final furlong and scored by four and a half lengths on the line.

“I thought the world of this filly as a two-year-old ,” Lavery later revealed. “Today she's shown what we've thought of her all along. I'm just thrilled.” A step up in class is now on the cards for Miramis, who was also bred by Lavery.

The Gurkha sired a double on the Gowran Park card when the Jesscia Harrington-trained Himalayan Beauty (3f The Gurkha - Praskovia, by Manduro) made a successful drop back to a mile for owner/breeder Sebastian Curran.

Tracking the leader under Shane Foley, she was pushed to challenge from two furlongs out and was ridden to lead entering the final furlong. Keeping on well, she won by three parts of a length from the favourite Red Heel and Music To My Ears (Australia).

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She's a filly we've always liked at home. She was good today and toughed it out well".
