Devil In The Sky (Starspangledbanner) Wins His Maiden At Chantilly

Impressive Maiden Winner Completes Starspangledbanner Double

Devil In The Sky (3c Starspangledbanner - Diabless, by High Chaparral) completed a double for Starspangledbanner at Chantilly on Thursday when running out a clear winner of the three-year-old maiden over nine and a half furlongs.

Placed on both his previous starts over course and distance, Yann Barberot’s charge was sent off favourite and was ridden to chase the leader by Dorian Provost. Producing a challenge two furlongs from home, the chesnut quickened clear to score by four lengths from Track Of Time (Gleneagles).

Owned by Philippe Allaire, Devil In The Sky was bred by Skymarc Farm, SCEA Marmion Vauville and SCEA De La Fontaine.

Earlier on the card, black-type performer Exxtra (3f Starspangledbanner - Rolling Stone, by Raven’s Pass) made a winning seasonal return in the Prix le Sancy, a three-year-old conditions race over five and a half furlongs.

The Carlos and Yann Lerner-trained filly was sent off favourite for the Class 2 contest and tracked the leaders in the early stages under Christophe Soumillon. Shaken up two furlongs out, she was ridden soon after and ran on well to assert close home, leading by three parts of a length on the line.

Listed placed as a juvenile, Exxtra holds an entry in the Group 3 Prix Sigy next month. The daughter of Starspangledbanner is owned by Anja Wilde and was bred by Madame Isabelle Corbani with Jedburgh Stud.
