Impressive Newcomer Completes Wootton Bassett Double

Friday saw Ninth Titan (3c Wootton Bassett - Yoga, by Monsun) complete a double for his sire at Pau when making an impressive debut in the ten furlong maiden under Stephane Pasquier.

Despite being the sole newcomer, the Philippe Sogorb-trained bay made all the running and had his rivals in trouble approaching the turn for home. Pasquier needed only to push his mount out to score by four lengths.

Owned and bred by the Niarchos family, Ninth Titan is out of a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Saddex and hails from the family of Spinning World.

Fellow owner/breeder Alain Jathiere triumphed earlier on the card when Kashinka (3f Wootton Bassett - Dachenka, by Dansili) landed the fillies’ equivalent by a length and a quarter.

Simone Brogi’s charge showed great promise on debut last month, when beaten less than a length over course and distance, and was reunited with Ioritz to go one place closer. Leading throughout, the bay quickened approaching the turn for home and was ridden from two furlongs out, always doing enough to hold off her rivals.

Kashinka becomes the first winner out of Dachenka, herself a half-sister to Stakes winners Ferdoos and Brusco (Rock Of Gibraltar).

The previous day at Chantilly, Hootton (4g Wootton Bassett - Hot Marmalade, by Duke Of Marmalade) built on a fine effort last time out to justify favouritism in the mile maiden.

After breaking well, the bay chased the leaders under Pierre-Charles Boudot and made eye-catching headway entering the straight. Boudot was the last to make a move, waiting until he was in front to barely push his mount along and won by three and a half lengths with minimum fuss.

Trained by Vermeulen for Ecurie Normandy Spirit and Ecuries Serge Stempniak, Hootton was bred by Yolande Seydoux De Clausonne.
