Improving Churchill Colt Rallies For Maiden Victory
Hamaki (2c Churchill - Sarawati, by Haafhd) became the latest first crop winner by Churchill when prevailing in a thrilling finish to Wednesday’s six furlong maiden at Pontefract.
Sent off second favourite under Dougie Costello, the William Haggas-trained bay raced in midfield for much of the way and was ridden to lead entering the final furlong. Keeping on well under pressure, he dug deep to deny Rambuso Creek by a head on the line.
Owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, Hamaki was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock as a yearling for £150,000. The half-brother to Group 1 winner Ventura Storm (Zoffany) was bred by Pigeon Park Stud.
