Improving Filly Adds To The Gurkha’s Tally
Libby Ami (2f The Gurkha - Moore’s Melody, by Marju) followed up on an eye-catching run last time out to gain her maiden win at Newcastle on Tuesday.
The John Quinn-trained filly made some late headway after suffering a troubled passage over six furlongs in September and stepped up to seven furlongs for the first time on Tuesday. James Sullivan rode the bay towards the back of the field, improving from two furlongs out and was ridden to lead entering the final furlong. Running on well, she scored by two lengths in comfortable fashion, as the long-time leader Love Of Zoffany (Zoffany) finished second.
A half-sister to three-time Stakes winner Talwar, Libby Ami becomes the latest winner from the first crop of The Gurkha.
