Improving Son Of Mastercraftsman Gets Off The Mark
Thursday saw the Joseph O’Brien-trained Druid’s Altar (3g Mastercraftsman - Shell Garlandm by Sadler’s Wells) gain a deserved maiden success in comfortable fashion at Listowel.
Previously placed twice over the same trip of a mile and a half, the bay led under Shane Crosse, but was soon joined by Pyramid Rock (Fastnet Rock). Gaining a narrow advantage from the halfway point, he was pushed clear from the two furlong marker and kept on well to win by two lengths and three quarters.
Assistant trainer Brendan Powell later commented, “He’s going the right way and he’s done that nicely. He’ll be a nice horse next year.”
Owned by the Annus Mirabilis Syndicate and bred by Whisperview Trading, Druid’s Altar is a half-brother to the highly-rated Sands Of Fortune and Druid’s Cross.
