Placo (Starspangledbanner) Wins His Maiden at Lingfield

Improving Son Of Starspangledbanner Gains Maiden Win

The promising Placo (2g Starspangledbanner - Spinamiss, by Lilbourne Lad) took another step forward on Wednesday to justify favouritism in the seven furlong maiden at Lingfield.

John and Thady Gosden charge finished a close fourth behind a smart type on debut, before being headed close home in a Newmarket maiden last month. Partnered by Kieran Shoemark on his third start, the bay made all of the running and was asked to quicken approaching the two furlong pole. Racing clear a furlong later, he was ridden when challenged close home and kept on well to deny Debora’s Dream (Sioux Nation) by a neck on the line.

Placo is owned by Eric Chen, having been bought by CDS Bloodstock at the breeze-up sales for €100,000. The son of Starspangledbanner was bred by Merriebelle Irish Farm Ltd.
