Double Martini Becomes The Latest Winner By Mastercraftsman

Inexperience No Barrier For Winning Son Of Mastercraftsman

The Paddy Twomey-trained Double Martini (3c Mastercraftsman - Dusty Moon, by Dr Fong) continued his stable’s excellent form of late when making a winning debut in Saturday’s five furlong maiden at Navan.

The Morna McDowall-owned colt was sent off second favourite to the Joseph O’Brien-trained Royal Court (Zoffany), who boasted far more experience, though was dropping back in trip. Double Martini broke well under Colin Keane and disputed the lead in the early stages, asserting at halfway, before being ridden out to hold off the favourite by a neck on the line.

Commenting after the race, Twomey said, “He'll probably have no bother getting further but we thought five was nice place to start him today on a stiff track like this. It's great that he won today and we'll make a new plan as we go now. He's a nice horse, he's been working well and that ground was ideal for him.”

Bred by Grange Stud, Double Martini is out of a full-sister to Grade 2 winner Spotlight and a half-sister to the dam of Irish Derby second Rostropovich and Group 1 winning sire Zoffany.
