Latest Winner By Zoffany Destined For Greater Things
The future looks bright for Camorra (2c Zoffany - Mauralakana, by Muhtathir), after the Ger Lyons-trained newcomer justified strong market support at Killarney on Wednesday.
A competitive field of seven lined up for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden over a mile, with Colin Keane riding the eventual winner to chase the leaders for much of the way. Pushing the bay along from over a furlong out, his mount overcame inexperience to stay on strongly inside the final furlong and led close home, beating the favourite Delta Dawn (Galileo) by half a length.
Ger Lyons, who trains the winner for the Merchants and Missionaries Partnership, later revealed his aspirations for the winner, saying, “He's a nice colt. We entered him in the Beresford Stakes this morning, even though we don't normally enter them in those races unless they've earned it.” The best is yet to come from Camorra, he added, “I didn't expect to run him until at least October, he's got next year written all over him. We thought he'd want every yard of a mile.”
Camorra was bred by Robert Scarborough and was bought by Gaelic Bloodstock as a yearling for 50,000gns. He becomes the fourth winner out of multiple Graded winner Mauralakana, whose finest hour came in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes.
Camorra continues an impressive run of juvenile winners by Zoffany, who commands €25,000 at Coolmore Stud.
