Likeable Churchill Colt Captures Haydock Maiden
Victory Sound (2c Churchill – Darajaat, by Elusive Quality) took a step forward on his second start to win Saturday’s Class 2 maiden at Haydock.
The Charlie Hills-trained colt finished fifth behind some more experienced types at Goodwood earlier this month and was partnered by Franny Norton when stepping up to seven furlongs. Racing in touch with the leaders, he took second approaching the final furlong and was ridden to lead in the final 110 yards. He kept on to deny a rallying rival by a short head, with another length back to the short-priced favourite in third.
Bred by RJB Bloodstock, the promising juvenile is owned by Teme Valley and Aura Racing. He continued a good day with his sire, with Hand Of Good (Churchill) having landed the Golden Gate Stakes at Royal Ascot that afternoon.
