Likeable Ten Sovereigns Filly Delivers On Debut

Wide With Delight (3f Ten Sovereigns – Quixotic, by Pivotal) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut in Saturday’s fillies’ maiden at Cork.

The Johnny Murtagh-trained newcomer raced in midfield in the early stages of the seven furlong race and was pushed along by Shane Kelly from the two furlong marker. Making headway approaching the final furlong, she ran on well to lead in the final 110 yards and kept on to score by a length and three quarters. The favourite National Lady (Magna Grecia) claimed runners-up honours, while Katie Bairdie (No Nay Never) took third, with the trio finishing seven lengths clear of the remainder.

“She is a lovely filly with a really good attitude,” said the winning rider. “She pricked her ears out of greenness and had a good look around but she was still going forward. She is really likeable.”

Wide With Delight carried the colours of Miss Pat O’Kelly, who bred the bay at her Kilcarn Stud. The half-sister to Group 2 victor Fighting Irish (Camelot) hails from the first crop of Ten Sovereigns.
