Love Reigns Supreme In Yorkshire Oaks
Love (3f Galileo - Pikaboo, by Pivotal) ran out an impressive winner of Thursday’s Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks to extend her unbeaten run this season.
A clearcut winner of the 1,000 Guineas in June, the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly could not have been more impressive when running out a nine length winner of the Epsom Oaks last month. She showed consistency and class once again at York, travelling strongly when leading from three furlongs out and was pushed out to record an easy success by five lengths, leaving her rivals to sort out the placings.
If anyone needed more reason to be impressed by Love, her trainer later said, “I don't know whether we've had such an exciting filly at this stage. I can't name one. We all saw what she did in the Guineas and the Oaks and we couldn't have been happier with her today. It would be very hard to say we've ever had a more exciting filly than Love – as long as I'm not dreaming in saying that. You don't ever want to get carried away, but she has the movement, pace, action and attitude that are the makings of those great horses.”
The Yorkshire Oaks became Love’s fourth top-level success overall, her first having come in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, while her maiden black-type success came in the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes. A Coolmore homebred, the daughter of Galileo is one of three Group winners out of the mare Pikaboo.
