Love Rules Supreme On Royal Ascot Return
Love (4f Galileo - Pikaboo, by Pivotal) made a sensational seasonal return to land the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes on the second day of Royal Ascot.
A Group 1 winner at two, Aidan O’Brien’s charge won all three of her starts at the highest level last season, but had to overcome a 300 day absence on Wednesday. She made all under Ryan Moore and faced a strong challenge approaching the final furlong, from which she was ridden out to win by three parts of a length. Audayra (Wootton Bassett), herself a dual Group/Grade 1 winner last season, produced a game performance in second, with another three parts of a length back to Armory (Galileo) in third.
Speaking after the race, a delighted Aidan O’Brien said, “We're over the moon with her. She's very genuine and brave. All the races are open to her. The King George, the Eclipse, all of them.”
Moore added, “She's a high-class filly. It was her first run since last August and she was able to beat a Breeders' Cup winner so I am sure she will improve but I am delighted with her today.”
A Coolmore homebred, Love is one of three Group winners by Galileo out of Pikaboo.
