Luxembourg to stand under the Coolmore National Hunt banner
Coolmore Stud are pleased to announce that Luxembourg, the Group 1-winning 2, 3, 4 and 5-year-old son of Camelot will join the National Hunt Sire’s division in Castlehyde Stud for the upcoming 2025 season.
Unbeaten at 2, Luxembourg was installed as winter favourite for the Epsom Derby following his smooth victory in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Stakes. He ran a hugely promising third in the Gr.1 2,000 Guineas behind the season’s leading milers Coroebus and Native Trail but sustained an injury which saw him miss his Epsom engagement. However, he finished the season in style defying Gr.1 winners, Onesto, Vadeni, Mishriff, Alenquer and Broome to win the Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes.
In all, Luxembourg contested 19 races with further highlights coming in the Gr.1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over 1m2f and the Gr.1 Coronation Cup over 1m4f earlier this year. “He is a very serious horse,” commented his trainer Aidan O’Brien after the Epsom success. “He is tough and has loads of class.”
“We’re delighted to have Luxembourg join our team here in Castlehyde,” said Cathal Murphy. “He has a very similar profile to the much-missed Fame And Glory, in that he is a Group 1 winner at 2, 3, 4, & 5 years and he is also from that wonderful Montjeu sire-line. Physically he ticks every box, he has all the size, scope, strength, and action you could ask for and he has shown incredible soundness and resilience throughout his extraordinary career. I have no doubt that Luxembourg will be a big hit with breeders.”
