Magna Grecia Filly Backs Up Form At Goodwood

Crystal Flyer (3f Magna Grecia – Mount Crystal, by Montjeu) built on two promising performances to justify favouritism in the Class 2 fillies’ novice stakes at Goodwood on Saturday.

Third on her sole juvenile start, the Tom Ward-trained filly finished fourth on return last month and enjoyed a boost when the third horse subsequently won the Group 3 Musidora Stakes. The winner also went on to earn black-type on her next start.

Partnered by Pat Dobbs on Saturday, the bay raced prominently throughout the ten furlong contest and eased into the lead with two furlongs left to race. Ridden approaching the final furlong, she kept on well to beat Candle Of Dubai (Zoffany) by a length and a quarter.

The first crop daughter of Magna Grecia is owned by Matthew Webber and was bred by the Pocock family.
