Mastercraftsman Colt Bests Rivals With Maiden Success
Babbo’s Boy (3c Mastercraftsman - Bunood, by Sadler’s Wells) beat two previous winners to gain his maiden win at Yarmouth on Tuesday.
The Michael Bell-trained grey was last seen finishing second to the impressive Sir John Priestley (Australia) in a similar contest earlier in the month, where he encountered traffic problems at a vital stage. Ryan Moore rode him to chase the leader Rochester House (Galileo) and asserted before two out, with the favourite Questionaire (Galileo) quickly joining him. Soon ridden, he rallied under pressure to deny his rival by a neck, with a further six lengths back to the longtime leader in third.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Nick Bell said that the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot could be on the cards for the Amo Racing-owned winner.
Bred by Lynch Bages and Camas Park Stud, Babbo’s Boy was sold by the latter at Tattersalls Book 1 for 110,000gns to Blandford Bloodstock. He is a half-brother to Listed performer Lanansaak, bred out of the multiple Stakes-placed mare Bunood, herself a granddaughter of Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Desirable.
