Crafty Madam (Mastercraftsman) Wins At The Curragh

Mastercraftsman Mare Lands Valuable Prize At The Curragh

Crafty Madam (5m Mastercraftsman - Dani Ridge, by Indian Ridge) continued a fine start for her new trainer when landing a valuable prize in the Summer Fillies Handicap at the Irish Derby Festival.

Twice a winner for Clive Cox, Con Harrington’s homebred made her first start for Ken Condon earlier in the month, when finishing a close second at Leopardstown. Ridden by Niall McCullagh on her latest start, she raced in mid-division for much of the seven furlong contest and was switched left to challenge two furlongs out. Running on into second inside the final furlong, she dug deep and battled to assert in the shadow of the post, as the first two finished five lengths clear of the third.

Ken Condon commented after the race, “Crafty Madam is a filly with a big pedigree and this is an important win. She had a lovely run at Leopardstown and we targeted this race after that and has come forward from it.”

Crafty Madam does, indeed, have a big pedigree, as a half-sister to top sprinter Profitable, along with three other Stakes performers.
