More To Come From Son Of Zoffany
The best may be yet to come from Killourney (3g Zoffany - Vee Gita, by Vettori) after the Willie McCreery-trained bay won his maiden with ears pricked at Gowran Park on Wednesday.
His debut second came at the same track in October, though Wednesday’s maiden was run over nine and a half furlongs. Sent off favourite, Killourney soon led under Leigh Roche, who asked his mount to quicken two furlongs out and stayed on well to beat Defilade by a length and three quarters, with another length back to Jumellea (Zoffany) in third.
Later described by McCreery as “a smashing looking horse,” Killourney is a half-brother to dual Listed winner and Grade 1 third Responsibleforlove. They were bred by Patrick Grogan out of an unraced half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile victor Vale Of York.
Killourney continues a fine run for Zoffany, whose daughter Main Edition landed the German 1,000 Guineas on Sunday. The Group 1 winning juvenile commands a fee of €25,000 this season.
